Federal Election comments

OK, I'll probably only say one thing about this election: I hope John Howard loses.

The vindictive part of me wants him to lose badly and be personally humiliated by the defeat, preferrably going down in history as the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had - but that's not really fair.

There's not a lot of difference between the major parties' platforms, anyway, but I dislike the way this country is headed. I can't stand the legalistic, inhuman rhetoric that we face daily. I think the War on Iraq was a terrible mistake on many levels and I detest our treatment of asylum seekers.

I think the debate over school funding has departed from the "each to his need" philosophy that has underpinned the Australian approach to public services, including welfare, and I think so much of our current public policy is un-Australian.

Having got that off my chest, though, I have to respect John Howard for the cunning and tenacious politician that he is and has been. He's done it well, and, like him or hate him, that has to be respected.

I just want him replaced ...
