Support Earth Hour 2008
Lately I haven't been able to do much but here's something that is pretty effortless for everyone: join Earth Hour and turn off your lights for an hour.
Tomorrow night at 8pm, just turn off all the lights and appliances for an hour and stop using electricity, reducing greenhouse emissions significantly. I'm sure it will also be good for community bonding, as people will actually have to go back to interacting instead of sitting passively beside each other watching TV ...
Of course, this is not good for the music industry as we currently know it, but there you go. A little more acoustic music won't hurt anyone, I'm sure.
On a philosophical note, I think this is a very important step forward for the human race. For far too long the response, especially in Western societies, to a shortage of limitation has been to work towards increasing supply rather than working towards reducing consumption. This Earth Hour initiative goes the other way; the only long-term solution to global warming is to reduce our energy consumption in all its forms. Innovations in energy generation will just cause more problems - it's about time out leaders got their heads around this concept!Posted by Hughie at March 28, 2008 8:19 AM
