It started out as a little guitar lick one night of deep drunken depression when I was living with my brother in a crumbling house in Cadell St, Toowong - not yet 21. The house is not there any more, replaced by a block of flats, which I find strangely poignant. A couple of years later I got to thinking about what the first part meant and then wrote part 2 to clarify it a bit. First performed it in 1995 - I've recorded three versions at various times, all of which I hate. One day I'll post something here you can listen to ...
SHadows pass, I see a green light shining And I wonder; why wonder? People pass, the light's still shining. And I wonder; why wonder? (Part 2) And I hear no pounding drums. I don;t own expensive yachts, And I wonder; why wonder? (in D) But I hear the crying street, But I know the lust the for. And I wonder; why wonder? (back to C) Yeah I wonder; why wonder? ******************************** Please note This song is APRA registered: Work ID GW09004946, ISWC T-060040971-9.
