January 27, 20062006 UpdateOK ... where have I been? Family duties, distraction therapy, building my backyard ... all the usual excuses. However, as of next week (Feb 1) I will be studying for a PhD at the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT, examining the sustainability of independent digital music production and distribution. Can't wait (in fact, I've already started!). Coupla coursework subjects to do and then I'm away. Of course, in the middle of this I have to finish Bun' Ber E's next album (the beds are down and the bagpipe tunes recorded). Also, I hope to use the Genre Benders as part of the study, so I'll have to get cracking on the recording of their debut! I'll also have to get serious about this blog - publishing daily and making sure I stay on the right focus! Fun, fun, fun!! On with the show ... Posted by Hughie at 9:20 AM | Comments

January 18, 2006Value in old mediaInteresting to note that a piece of paper with Beatles lyrics written on it is worth a lot of money. Goes to reinforce the old adage about easy things being worth less than difficult things - for all the copies of those lyrics, digital, printed out, hand-transcribed, etc, this one is the only one worth anything. Also shows the long-term benefits of creating things in a tangible way. The early tapes of the Beatles recordings are worth more than all of the copies of those recordings ... plenty of artists and athletes have generated a lot of value by selling the memorabilia of their acheivements. One day some of my pieces of paper might be worth something similar. Posted by Huge at 11:04 AM | Comments

January 16, 2006New yearsWell, I'm back on deck now from family stuff and "holidays" and all that. Got a lot of organising and thinking to do and then I'll get serious about all this again. For 2006 I've been granted an ICI scholarship to undertake PhD studies at QUT. The thesis will concern the digital creation and distribution of music. Stillfiguring out the details but it should be interesting and keep me off the streets. Also got the new Bun' Ber E album to get ready. Fun! Fun! Fun. More later ...
