March 24, 2005Bugger!Lost the Grand Final last night in sudden-death extra time. We started well, leading 3-1 at one stage, and then dropped off to be 4-4 at half-time. Got hammered early in the second half to trail 7-5 but clawed it back to lead 8-7 with a minute to go. Just needed to defend one set to take the title, but the Chelmer Cats were too good and scored the equaliser. When it came to the three-on-three they just had too much speed for my poor tired bones ... well done. They earned it. Still, there's always next season ... :-) My darling won her B-grade mixed final ... Posted by Hughie at 3:47 PM | Comments

March 16, 2005I'm not washed up yet!Just received the letter advising that I've been picked in the NTRA over-35s team for the annual State of Origin at Coffs Harbour this year!! What a buzz. I guess this proves that even when you feel completely unfit, outclassed and over the hill, there are still plenty of others who feel the same way and want to be less so that you are! :-) I guess now I have a reason to work hard at getting fit ... Fun, fun, fun!! Posted by Hughie at 1:35 PM | Comments

Cry to HeavenSeveral years ago I was in a band with a guy called Adam Rogers, with whom I also shared a day job. The band never went anywhere for a number of reasons, but one of the highlights was that we recorded this song, which Adam wrote. I absolutely adored it then and could really identify with where Adam's head was when he wrote it. He told me I could do something with it, and here's my first effort, which I put together in a huge hurry for an application to the JBSeed for funding. It's not quite right yet (the vocals suck - I sang some wrong words on the demo), but you should get the idea. Update: If you feel generous you can now buy the version of this song released on The Genre Benders' debut CD "I am leaving! I am leaving!" from iTunes, or GroupieTunes, or Payplay.FM. If you have a different favourite online store, search for it there and if it's not there, let me know so I can put it there. Cry to Heaven (in Am) Looking back over wasted time I'm wondering where I went wrong. And though I don't really have a religion,
I'm not really sure if it was my decision
You know I don't really have a religion, ******************************** Please note: The author, Adam Rogers, owns this song and I have no idea what his views are copying. Until I find out, please don't copy, reproduce and distribute any part of these lyrics for any purpose. If you want to make something out of it, let me know and I'll tell Adam. If you perform it or broadcast it for any purpose, please let APRA know. Posted by Huge at 12:01 PM | Comments

March 1, 2005Latest offeringsI'm afraid I've been rather slack about keeping readers up to date with the latest events here, but things have gotten reasonably interesting. Yesterday, I took delivery of this, which is the latest version of Longing for the Day - title track of this Blog. See, I'm working on getting some seed funding from the JBSeed to help get the Genre Benders off the ground. I think it's fabulous that John's offering his own money to help others, and I figured the Genre Benders is the kind of project John Butler might help with. We'll soon see - but part of the process is to cut a swag of demos of songs to show him what we're capable of. This is the first, and there will soon be more, but regardless of what John Butler thinks of this project, the application will be an impetus to help get this stuff recorded and released ASAP. Stay tuned for that. Posted by Huge at 10:54 AM | Comments
