December 23, 2004Season's greetingsBest wishes to all, whatever your persuasion. I'm not much of a fan of Christmas per se, but it is a good opportunity to reflect on the state of humanity and one's place in it. Besides, the world could use a little goodwill at the moment (or a lot ...) Posted by Huge at 5:52 PM | Comments

December 21, 2004Unplugged CD Launch - International versionFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Hugh Brown, +61 7 409 622 395 Aussie Celtic survivors the last band standing.
Brisbane, Australia. 2 December 2004. Bun' Ber E Celtic Bands will launch their latest CD release, Unplugged, at Dicey Reilly's, Garden City, on Sunday, 12 December 2004 at 9am. Unplugged features the boys in a high-energy stand-and-deliver performance - just like they're playing in your lounge room. The album was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered in home studios in Brisbane, and features 10 traditional tracks given the high-energy Bun' Ber E treatment, plus an irreverent original song "Heart's With You". Band leader Malcolm Ketchion said the latest release shows off a uniquely Australian take on what Celtic music could be. "In Australia, we're a little removed from what the original Celtic cultures have become," he said, "and it would be silly for us to cling to what they were." "But we love the heritage they gave us and want to try to reflect where that heritage has been taken by Australians." "We Aussies love a joke and a good time, too, so Bun' Ber E focuses on keeping the energy and humour up. We don’t play many cry-in-your beer songs." "The tunes on Unplugged are performed just the way the tourists love them at Southbank and the way they work for audiences in beergardens all over the place." "It's all about having a cracking good, sometimes silly, time - and judging by radio and audience response it's working for us." Like its predecessor, Ceilidh, Unplugged will be released to a global audience via web-based record company CDBaby and pay-per-song distributors like Apple iTunes, which has proved a great success for Bun' Ber E. The tracks can be sampled via www.bunbere.com and the album can be downloaded or ordered from that site. Hard copies can be ordered via that site or bought from the band's shows. For more information, see www.bunbere.com. To order a review copy or arrange an interview, contact Hugh Brown on +61 7 409 622 395 or at news@bunbere.bizhosting.com. # # # Posted by Hughie at 9:52 AM | Comments

ApologiesSorry for my recent absence. It's been a combination of a couple of things. The first is my father's accident - he fell out of a tree and broke his second Lumbar vertebra. He'll been fine if he behaves for about three months but I've been up at the farm helping to thin fruit and fix things up a bit. The other is that I've been looking a bit more urgently for a day job again. The Uni has nt yet made me an offer to teach next year, though I might apply for a scholarship and starft a PhD. There was an interesting job came up on the Q-Music website yesterday: using music to help "at-risk" youth in Brisbane. I'd love to have a crack at that. Plenty of job applications to write next year. In other news, I'll be off to Wollongong for my old friend Franny's wedding in January. That should be fun. Apart from that it's just Christmas, promoting Bun' Ber E Unplugged (which is going well) and getting on with life ... More soon. December 3, 2004Unplugged CD Launch - Australian versionFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Brisbane Celtic survivors the last band standing. Brisbane, Australia. 2 December 2004. Band leader Malcolm Ketchion said the latest release was the result of hard work, dedication and professionalism in a field dominated by people chasing a fast buck. "We started in 1997, just before Riverdance made the Irish thing huge," he said, "and there were heaps of bands and venues that leapt onto that bandwagon." "Seven years later, most of those venues are closed and we're the only Brisbane band doing anything interesting with traditional Celtic music." "We kept true to our calling and stayed professional. We had good support from the local Celtic community and radio programs and we're moving ahead on our own now." Like its predecessor, Ceilidh, Unplugged will be released to a global audience via web-based record company CDBaby and pay-per-song distributors like Apple iTunes, which has proved a great success for Bun' Ber E.
