A new job ...

Well, I'm sitting at the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Qld and wondering how this happened. This morning I gave my first lecture in "Multimedia Journalism" - scary stuff.

I have had to slow down a bit from full-time work at On Line Opinion because I seem to be fatiguing a lot and struggling to keep up with the work ... not good. But, just as I was forced to confont this problem, the University rang and asked me to teach part-time, one subject, one semester. How could I say no?

I'm working at On Line Opinion part-time until they can replace me, and will continue to hang around and volunteer and help out as I can. OLO's a great initiative and I've really enjoyed being there. I've learned a lot.

Hopefully I'll have some spare time to work on other things, too.

Blowing out the cobwebs

Well ... had me some fun yesterday down at the local club. We had an open-slather jamm - all welcome, any style.

Yesterday, I lent them my PA, played accoustic guitar, had a sing, played drums and percussion, clapped, cheered and yahoo-ed my way through the afternoon. Man, it was a blast - and my family were there along with a whole heap of other families, too.

It's good to get those standards out of the system overy now and then - and to have a no-pressure gig. Contrast that with last Thursday night, when I played as a "Bush Band" (duo) to the international conference of University Chaplains at Griffith. There was just two of us for an hour playing songs I'd learned the night before and I'd never played with Focksy ever.

Still, variety is the spice of life. The punters seemed to enojoy it all. I feel better now.
