The Cost of putting a price on education

Andrew West, I couldn't have said it better myself. The degredation of education as a means to open minds is as short-sighted and narrow-mainded as the degredation of scientific research that is not imediately prodcutive.

They are both completely destructive in the long run and will only act to impede our progress - economic as well as social - in the future. No wonder the Religiuos Right is on the rise, they offer simplistic solutions to complex problems that don't stand up to rigorous scrutiny. Trouble is, there's not enough people scrutinising them when the focus is on making the next buck ...
